LENTAS - TRADITIONAL SETTLEMENT
Lentas is a settlement in municipality of Gortys in the law of Heraklion. The cape of Lentas looks like a real lion. In the ancient mythology it was one of the lions that plunk the chariot of Hera Goodness. For this reason and the ancient city’s name was Levin and today the name is Lentas. The road for Heraklion is about 70km.
The name comes from the Phoenicians word Lavi=lion or from the word Levinthos. According to the mythology, one of the lions that plunk the chariot of Hera Goodness became stone in this area and for this reason it took the name Levin. The major probability is that the name comes from the cape that looks like a lion.
